In his book In Praise of Slowness, Carl Honoré dissects our speed-obsessed society and celebrates those who have gotten in touch with their "inner tortoise." About the speakerCarl Honore · Journalist In his book In Praise of Slowness, Carl Honoré dissects our speed-obsessed society and celebrates those who have gotten in touch with their "inner tortoise." Journalist Carl Honore believes the Western world's emphasis on speed erodes health, productivity and quality of life. But there's a backlash brewing, as everyday people start putting the brakes on their all-too-modern lives.

Challenges of Information Security Incident Learning: An Industrial Case Study in a Chinese Healthcare Organisation
Rating
0.0 stars

Security incidents can have negative impacts on healthcare organisations and the security of medical records has become a primary concern of the public. However, previous studies showed that organisations had not effectively learned lessons from security incidents. Incident learning as an essential activity in the “follow-up” phase of security incident response lifecycle, has long been addressed but not given enough attention. This paper conducted a case study in a healthcare organisation in China to explore their current obstacles in the practice of incident learning. We interviewed both IT professionals and healthcare professional. The results showed that the organisation did not have a structured way to gather and redistribute incident knowledge. Incident response was ineffective in cycling incident knowledge back to inform security management. Incident reporting to multiple stakeholders faced a great challenge. In response to this case study, we suggest the security assurance modelling framework to address those obstacles.

A Chance at Monte Carlo

At its core, the LEGO MINDSTORMS(TM) NXT product provides a programmable microprocessor. Students use the NXT processor to simulate an experiment involving thousands of uniformly random points placed within a unit square. Using the underlying geometry of the experimental model, as well as the geometric definition of the constant π (pi), students form an empirical ratio of areas to estimate a numerical value of π. Although typically used for numerical integration of irregular shapes, in this activity, students use a Monte Carlo simulation to estimate a common but rather complex analytical form the numerical value of the most famous irrational number, π.

***LOGIN REQUIRED*** In this lesson students will learn about the five types of nutrients and their purposes. This lesson will also cover symptoms of nutritional deficiencies in livestock. I divide this lesson into two class periods. On the first day we talk about nutrients and the second day we talk about the importance of nutrients for body functions such as growth, reproduction, and maintenance. At the end, students will have to pass a quiz that covers most of the main information taught during these lessons as a means to exhibit proficient comprehension of the information and its importance.

Subject covers the analysis, design, implementation, and testing of various forms of digital communication based on group collaboration. Students are encouraged to think about the Web and other new digital interactive media not just in terms of technology but also broader issues such as language (verbal and visual), design, information architecture, communication and community. Students work in small groups on a semester-long project of their choice. Various written and oral presentations document project development.

Communication skills for a pharmacist
Rating
0.0 stars

Both written and verbal communication skills will be needed for establishing positive and productive relationships. Pharmacy students should be given opportunities to learn and practice interpersonal communication skills during their community advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE). Preceptors have the responsibility of setting the stage for the pharmacy students during their initial encounter. During this orientation to the site, students should become familiar with the history of the practice, the types of services provided, and the staff members. Once the orientation is completed, preceptors can develop strategies for incorporating the students into the practice's patient care activities. Students should participate in patient counseling, interviewing, and educational sessions. Also, students should participate in collaborative work with other health care providers. To ensure the development of communication skills in pharmacy students, preceptors can incorporate the teaching process “see one, do one, teach one” into their teaching activities. By following these strategies, preceptors can effectively and positively impact the communication skills of their students.

Completing the Circuit

In the everyday electrical devices we use calculators, remote controls and cell phones a voltage source such as a battery is required to close the circuit and operate the device. In this hands-on activity, students use batteries, wires, small light bulbs and light bulb holders to learn the difference between an open circuit and a closed circuit, and understand that electric current only occurs in a closed circuit.
