Artist Neil Harbisson was born completely color blind, but these days a device attached to his head turns color into audible frequencies. Instead of seeing a world in grayscale, Harbisson can hear a symphony of color -- and yes, even listen to faces and paintings.

***LOGIN REQUIRED*** This course is designed to teach students the elements of design. Students learn to create an impact through the use of color, fabrics and textures. Instruction includes the history of interior design, furniture styles, design theory, and project presentation. Students will learn to determine the scope of a project, develop and present a proposal, and implement a project. Communication skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, and ethics are addressed. English language arts and math are reinforced throughout the course.
A presentation addresses the concepts of (Interlanguage). It explains the main features and different aspects of this system.
This course is designed in the tightly controlled space between (national) security and (civil) liberty, student projects, guest presentations, readings and workshop discussions will attempt to develop positive answers to these questions. More specifically, the course will focus on the psychological, economical and political conditions of those who are marginalized and therefore deprived of parrhesia today: the silent victims and witnesses of any kind of social and cultural exclusions. "Parrhesia" was an Athenian right to frank and open speaking, the right that, like the First Amendment, demands a "fearless speaker" who must challenge political powers with criticism and unsolicited advice. Can designer and artist respond today to such a democratic call and demand? Is it possible to do so despite the (increasing) restrictions imposed on our liberties today? Can the designer or public artist operate as a proactive "parrhesiatic" agent and contribute to the protection, development and dissemination of "fearless speaking" in Public Space.
Explores the application of building technology to architecture through considerations of building construction -- materials and methods -- and systems -- structure, enclosure, climate and utility services, light, acoustics, fire safety, and accessibility. Includes lectures, laboratory exercises, site visits, problem sets, and a semester-long student investigation of a precedent building. Required of Course IV majors.
Computer science is essential of a lot of things, help you to build things and give you new idea
During this course, we will be exploring basic questions of architecture through several short design exercises. Working with many different media, students will discover the interrelationship of architecture and its related disciplines, such as structures, sustainability, architectural history and the visual arts. Each problem will focus on one of these disciplines and one exploration and presentation technique.

This video was created for Penn State's GEOG 883, Remote Sensing for the Geospatial Intelligence Professional course (https://www.e-education.psu.edu/geog883/) with the assistance of Jarlath O'Neil-Dunne and the John A. Dutton e-Education Institute (https://www.e-education.psu.edu/). It provides an introduction to remote sensing workflows. The example is mapping lakes in Great Rift Valley in Kenya using Landsat imagery.

This section of Introduction to Technical Communication deals with ethical issues associated with the design, use, and propagation of technology. At virtually all stages of development and use, any technology can carry with it ethical dilemmas for both creators and users. Of particular interest is how such dilemmas are resolved (or complicated) according to how effectively they are communicated to stakeholders.
This class will provide some answers to basic questions about the nature of human language. Throughout the course, we will be examining a number of ways in which human language is a complex but law-governed mental system.
In the first two-thirds of the class, we will study some core aspects of this system in detail. In the final part of the class, we will use what we have learned to address a variety of other questions—including how language is acquired, how dialects arise, how languages change over time, and others.
This provides an excellent platform for considering what exactly it is that makes a space sacred, the intersection of art and ritual, and how a site is designed to meet the requirements of its faith. For example, you can ask your students to recall the key requirements of a church for Christian liturgy (e.g., aisles for procession, the altar for the Eucharist, large interior to accommodate a congregation) and relate this to the functionality of the architectural plan. In your lecture, you will highlight similar considerations of the requirements Islam imposes upon mosque architecture. Further, covering the influence of Roman architecture (evidenced in the arches, columns, and domes) will give the students an idea of how Islamic artists and architects interacted and exchanged with other cultures
Examine the principles of geometric design that are the basis for the beautiful and intricate patterns in the art of the Islamic world. Includes a brief overview of Islamic art, an introduction to related works in the Museum, and a series of pattern-making activities (including reproducible grids) for use in the classroom. Teachers can readily adapt these materials to create exciting lessons in art, culture, math, and geometry.
